Majority of Idaho's National Merit Scholarships from Boise District
Posted on 05/10/2017
Nine of the 13 National Merit Scholarship recipients in Idaho for 2017 are from the Boise School District. National Merit $2,500 Scholarship recipients are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The nine Boise District students selected (pictured below) are among 2,500 Merit Scholars nationwide. Scholars may use their $2,500 award at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
These Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the Finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades erned; scores from two standardized tests; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the Finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
